Ask our Favorite Runners - Most Memorable Race

To race or not to race?

One of the most rewarding experiences of being a runner is participating in races, and all the interesting race stories we accrue!

This week, we asked our Favorite Runners what their most memorable race memories were. Here's what they had to say.

Badass Bike Tale

Sherry

My favorite running memory was finishing a sprint triathlon after my bike fell apart and I’d walked my chunky self 2 miles barefoot to get to my shoes before the 5K to finish it!

By far the most badass day of my life.

From one place to another

Andrea

My most memorable running moment was when I was at a wedding in Cincinnati. I woke up early before the big day and went for a run... LOVE exploring a new city. Just ran and ran—and found a bridge! So excited I love running over bridges! Suddenly it said “welcome to Kentucky!”

I called my dad and I told him I ran from Ohio to Kentucky:) 🏃🏼‍♀️ 😂

A Surprise Reunion

Misty

In elementary school, I was the girls' cross-country team. My dad was the coach, and there were plenty of boys, but then just me... until I was in 8th grade, and then Brooke, a 4th grade girl, joined. She then took over for me as being the entire girls team until she graduated.

Today I did the Tough Mudder. After the race, a woman comes up to me and says, "Are you Misty Melsheimer?" I said that I was.

It was Brooke!

I haven't seen her since I was a junior in high school, so over 20 years ago. After a couple minutes of conversation she went on her way- but then turned back and said, "Tell your dad that he's the reason I did this race today. He's the one who started me running. I wouldn't be here doing this if it weren't for him."

My dad has always been my running inspiration. It warmed my heart to know he was someone else's too.
